Walk the Bridge

The Ministry is migrating nzmaths content to Tāhurangi.
Relevant and up-to-date teaching resources are being moved to Tāhūrangi (tahurangi.education.govt.nz).
When all identified resources have been successfully moved, this website will close. We expect this to be in June 2024.
e-ako maths, e-ako Pāngarau, and e-ako PLD 360 will continue to be available.

Description of Mathematics

Number Framework Stage 1 to 4.

Required Resource Materials
Large Numerals (Material Master 4-3)
Activity

Place large numeral cards on the ground in order from 1 to 9 to form a bridge. The students count as one student steps on the number. The student who is “walking the bridge” may decide to walk forwards or backwards. The other students follow closely to produce the forward or backward counting sequence. Have the student stand on a number and discuss what is before and after this number.
