Shoot the Hoop

The Ministry is migrating nzmaths content to Tāhurangi.           
Relevant and up-to-date teaching resources are being moved to Tāhūrangi (tahurangi.education.govt.nz). 
When all identified resources have been successfully moved, this website will close. We expect this to be in June 2024.

Purpose

This is a level 2 algebra activity from the Figure It Out series. It also has an achievement objective from the Level 1 Number knowledge substrand.
A PDF of the student activity is included.

Specific Learning Outcomes

Required Resource Materials
  • 1 or 2 classmates
  • FIO, Level 2-3, Algebra, Shoot the Hoop, pages 14-15
  • 4 sets of Numeral cards
  • a different coloured counter for each player

Game

This game uses digit cards and encourages the students to think about the symbols and relationships outlined in the achievement objective.
