Year 2: week 3 (number knowledge and patterns)

This week we focus on number knowledge and creating and completing patterns.

This page suggests activities for each day. Click to download a printable PDF to help keep track of progress.


Day 1

Number knowledge

  • Go to the activity Doubles and halves memory and follow the instructions.
  • Start with the doubles to 10 (1+1…5+5). If these are too easy, use doubles to 20.

Patterns e-ako

  • Go to the Patterns and relationships pathway in e-ako maths.
  • Choose e-ako PR1.10 (the first yellow button on the first row).
  • Work through pages 1-6 with a family member.

Patterns activity

  • Look around your home for things that are in a pattern. This may include: cutlery at the dinner table, shoes in a cupboard (in 2s), tiles. 
  • Draw pictures of the patterns you find and/or to describe the patterns to a family member.

Day 2

Number knowledge

  • Go to the activity Memory doubles and follow the instructions.
  • Start with the doubles to 10 (1+1…5+5). If these are too easy, use doubles to 20.

Patterns e-ako

  • Go back to e-ako PR1.10 on the Patterns and relationships pathway in e-ako maths.
  • Work through pages 7-14 with a family member.

Day 3

Number knowledge

  • Go to the activity Snap and follow the instructions.

Patterns e-ako

  • Go back to e-ako PR1.10 on the Patterns and relationships pathway in e-ako maths.
  • Work through pages 15-25 with a family member.

Patterns activity

  • Go to the activity Manu’s song and follow the instructions.

Day 4

Number knowledge

  • Re-use one of the games from the previous three days.

Patterns e-ako

  • Go to e-ako PR1.20 on the Patterns and relationships pathway in e-ako maths.
  • Work through pages 1-11 with a family member.

Patterns activity

  • Go to the activity Creature patterns and follow the instructions.
  • You might like to spread this activity over two days by leaving the “Thursday” pattern to Day 5.

Day 5

Number knowledge

  • Re-use one of the games from previous days.

Patterns e-ako

  • Go to e-ako PR1.20 on the Patterns and relationships pathway in e-ako maths.
  • Work through pages 12-22 with a family member.
