Purpose:
You can help your child to count forwards and backwards in tens, hundreds and thousands.
What you need:
- Game cards. (PDF, 39BK) You can print these or make your own.
- Pen and paper for each player.
What to do:
Each player starts with the number 10 000 written on their paper.
The cards are placed face down in a pile.
Players take turns to turn over a card and add or subtract 10, 100 or 1000 from their starting number as indicated by the card.
Players keep track of their numbers using their pen and paper.
The winner is the player with the highest number once all the cards have been turned over.

He Whakawhitinga Kōrero:
- Tuhia te tau tekau mano ki tō pepa. (Write the number 10 000 on your paper.)
- Tangohia tētahi kāri. Whāia tā te kāri e tohu ana. He tāpiri, he tango rānei i te tekau, i te rau, i te mano rānei. (Follow what the card indicates. Either add or subtract 10, 100 or 1000.)
- Tuhia te otinga ki tō pepa. (Write the result on your paper.)
- Kia pau katoa ngā kāri, ko te tangata kei a ia te otinga nui rawa atu, ko ia te toa. (When all of the cards have been used, the person with the biggest result is the winner.)
