The Ministry is migrating nzmaths content to Tāhurangi.

Purpose

These exercises and activities are for students to use independently of the teacher to practice number properties.

NA4-4: Apply simple linear proportions, including ordering fractions.

  • Convert fractions to decimals and vice versa

Background

One interesting exercise here is to ask student to find the fraction that is exactly halfway between the two named fractions, and compare this to the original fractions.

Comments of the Exercises

Exercise 1

Asks students to find a fraction between two frctions by exploring two strategies.  The first strategy involves converting the fractions to decimals. The second strategy is to convert the fractions to equivalent fraction with a common denominator.
