Matt, Marama and Luisa each have $12.

They each get some more money and find that they now have an average of $14 each. Matt has more money than Marama and both of them have more than Luisa.

If they each have a whole dollar amount, what are the amounts that they now have?

Solution:

If they start with $12 each and finish with $14 each then the average increase is $2.

This means that the total increase is $6. If the three each now have a different whole dollar amount and they each got some money then the only possible amounts they could have got are $1, $2 and $3.

Matt now has $15, Marama now has $14, and Luisa now has $13.
