Pale has a piece of string 20 centimetres long.  He ties the ends together and then lays it out so that it makes a square.  How long are the sides of the square?

Solution:

A square has four sides which are all the same length, so if the string is 20 centimetres long, then each side will be one quarter of that length, or 5 centimetres long.
