Purpose:
You can help your child to order the numbers 1- 20.
What you need:
- Jigsaw cards (PDF,60KB) . You can print these or make your own.
- Cardboard. (Old cereal boxes are good)
What to do:
Print the jigsaw puzzle and glue it on to card.
Cut along the bold lines to make 7 pieces.
Ask your child to put the jigsaw pieces back together. Remind them that 5, 10, 15 and 20 are at the end of the row.
What to expect your child to do:
Order the numbers correctly from 1 – 20.
Variation:
- Make two copies of the jigsaw puzzle and leave one copy uncut. Children will find it easier to match the pieces onto the completed puzzle. Then practice counting the numbers in order 1- 20.
- Do this activity using your home language
- Use your home language to practise counting with your child from 1-20.

- Ko te rima kei te pito whakamutunga o te kapa tuatahi. (Five is at the end of the first row.)
- He aha te tau kei te pito whakamutunga o te kapa tuarua? (What number is at the end of the second row?)
