Addition Loopy Cards

The Ministry is migrating nzmaths content to Tāhurangi.
Relevant and up-to-date teaching resources are being moved to Tāhūrangi (tahurangi.education.govt.nz).
When all identified resources have been successfully moved, this website will close. We expect this to be in June 2024.
e-ako maths, e-ako Pāngarau, and e-ako PLD 360 will continue to be available.

Purpose:

The purpose of this activity is to help your child to recall the addition basic facts up to 10 + 10.

What you need:

Set of Loopy Cards.(PDF, 40KB) You can print these or make your own.

What to do:

Deal out the cards between the players.   Players can spread their cards out face up.
The person who has “Start” loopy card begins by reading out loud the instruction on that card, “4 + 7” and then places the card in the middle.
The person who has a Loopy card that shows the answer "11" calls out the answer and places it on top of the start card. The player then reads the next instruction.
The game keeps going until the card with “Finish” is placed in the middle.

What to expect your child to do:

To recall the addition basic facts. They should become quicker at instantly recalling the facts.

  • Make up more sets of Loopy cards.
  • Make a note of the addition basic facts that your child needs to practice most.
  • Players can match the answers and instructions to form one continuous line.
