Background

Before working on unlike denominators, students often benefit from working on fractions with related denominators, where one denominator can be changed to the other denominator.

Exercise 1
Asks students to use a fraction wall to simplify fractions and add them together.

Exercise 2
Asks students to solve word problems that involve adding and subtracting fractions with unlike denominators.
