Pocket facts
This activity encourages students to recall their basic addition and subtraction facts.

- The students select an unknown addition or subtraction fact to place in their pocket. They carry this fact with them for a day and also take it home after school. During the day other students or the teacher ask the students to recall their fact.
- At the start of the following day the student selects another fact to place in their pocket.
Note: Known facts may be recorded on an individual chart. Alternatively each student can have a pack of number fact cards that are divided into two piles: the DO KNOWS and the DON'T KNOW. The pocket facts are then drawn from the DON'T KNOW pile.
