The Ministry is migrating nzmaths content to Tāhurangi.
Relevant and up-to-date teaching resources are being moved to Tāhūrangi (tahurangi.education.govt.nz).
When all identified resources have been successfully moved, this website will close. We expect this to be in June 2024.
e-ako maths, e-ako Pāngarau, and e-ako PLD 360 will continue to be available.

“For a group of students who had trouble in understanding that addition can be done in any order....”

When carrying out addition it is helpful if students physically manipulate the order of the numerals (printed on card) to better understand the commutative property.
This can be further developed to explore and come to understand the relationships between addition and subtraction and within the family of facts.

Domain: Addition and subtraction
Transition: 4 → 5
Barrier: The commutative property (of basic addition facts).
