The Ministry is migrating nzmaths content to Tāhurangi.
Relevant and up-to-date teaching resources are being moved to Tāhūrangi (tahurangi.education.govt.nz).
When all identified resources have been successfully moved, this website will close. We expect this to be in June 2024.
e-ako maths, e-ako Pāngarau, and e-ako PLD 360 will continue to be available.

Common Assessment Tasks

Information about the CAT and examination timetable for 2011 has just been published
Level 1 Mathematics – Dates for Common Assessment Task 2011: Level 1 Mathematics Achievement Standard 91027, 1.2 Apply algebraic procedures in solving problems, 4 credits, will be assessed by a Common Assessment Task (CAT). Schools will deliver the CAT for this standard during school time, between Tuesday 20 September and Thursday 22 September 2011. Entries for AS91027 must be included in the 1 August file submission so that materials can be supplied to schools early in September. Candidates will have sixty minutes to complete the assessment. Teachers will be required to mark their candidates’ work using the schedule provided, submit provisional results online and send a sample of papers to NZQA for verification by Thursday 27 October 2011. The assessment schedule for teachers to use for marking will be published on the school’s secure website on Friday 23 September.

Revised Assessed Work cover sheets for Literacy and Numeracy

Updated information about national external moderation requirements, and revised Assessed Work cover sheets and evidence collection sheets for the level 1 Literacy and Numeracy unit standards are now available on the NZQA website. These can be found under the Information and resources for assessment and moderation section, at http://www.nzqa.govt.nz/qualifications-standards/qualifications/ncea/subjects/literacy-and-numeracy-level-1/.

Any queries regarding these can either be directed to the TAM mailbox (tam@nzqa.govt.nz)

Numeracy unit standards

The resources for the new numeracy unit standards are currently being revised. The original material is still available. The new Assessed Work cover sheets and evidence collection tools will be published on the NZQA website as soon as possible.

Assessment resources

Internal Assessment Resources

All standards are now registered on the National Qualifications Framework. Now that this registration process has been completed the final step for the internal assessment resources is a quality assurance (QA) check. This is to ensure that any changes in wording to the standards made during the QA process for registration are reflected in the assessment resources. Until this happens, the assessment resources will remain on TKI as being in their ‘draft’ status. This final check is underway with due speed.

The TKI pages have been amended so that the draft standards on the pages have been removed and a link is provided to the NZQA Subject Specific Resources page. The NZQA Subject Specific Resources pages contain all the relevant materials relating to the new Level 1 achievement standards, including annotated exemplars of the grade boundary, and links to the current assessment resources. To find a resource, go to www.nzqa.govt.nz/mathematics and click link for annotated exemplars

External Assessment Resources

These are being updated and sample assessments for all Level 1 externally assessed achievement standards will be published progressively on the subject-specific pages of the NZQA website. Material for each externally assessed Level 1 standard includes a sample assessment, an assessment schedule, and a set of annotated exemplars of student work that show performance at different grade levels. This material can be downloaded for in-school use to guide teachers and students on how the new or revised Level 1 standards might be assessed. To find the resources, go to www.nzqa.govt.nz/mathematics and click the link for sample external assessments.
