Purpose:
You can help your child to practice the basic division facts.
What you need:
- Game cards (PDF,84KB) . You can print these or make your own.
- Cardboard.
- Paper for each player
What to do:
Glue the cards on to cardboard.
Cut the game cards, shuffle them and place in a pile face down between the players.
Each player writes down five numbers between 2 and 9 on a piece of paper for other players to see.
Players take turns to turn over a card from the pile and solve it. If the answer is on their piece of paper they cross it off. The card is then replaced at the bottom of the pile. The winner is the first player to cross off all of their 5 numbers.
What to expect your child to do:
Over time expect your child to instantly recall all the division facts.
Variation:
- Use the fact cards as flash cards and ask your child to solve the facts.
- Extend the range of division facts by writing your own facts.
- Use your home language to do this activity.

He Whakawhitinga Kōrero:
- Riwhiriwhia ngā kāri. Whakaputua, ko ngā mata ki raro. (Put them face down in a pile.)
- Kōwhiria ētahi tau e rima mai i te rua ki te iwa, ka tuhi ai ki te pepa. (Choose 5 numbers between 2 and 9 and write them on paper.)
- Kei a koe i te tuatahi. Tangohia tētahi kāri whakawehenga i te putunga kāri. (Your turn first. Take a division card from the pile.)
- He aha te otinga o te whakawehenga? (What is the answer to the division?)
- Waru tekau mā tahi, whakawehea ki te iwa, ka hia tērā? (81 divided by 9. How many is that?)
- Mēnā ko tēnā tētahi o ngā tau i tuhia e koe ki te pepa, me uhi ki te porotiti. (If that is one of the numbers you wrote down on the paper, cover it with a counter.)
- Koia kei a koe! Kua uhia katoatia ō tau. Ko koe te toa. (Good one. You’ve covered all of your numbers. You’re the winner.)
