Division Bingo

The Ministry is migrating nzmaths content to Tāhurangi.
Relevant and up-to-date teaching resources are being moved to Tāhūrangi (tahurangi.education.govt.nz).
When all identified resources have been successfully moved, this website will close. We expect this to be in June 2024.
e-ako maths, e-ako Pāngarau, and e-ako PLD 360 will continue to be available.

Purpose:

You can help your child to recall division basic facts up to 10 x 10.

What you need:

  • A set of Bingo Cards (PDF, 28KB). You can print these or make your own.
  • 8 counters for each player - buttons, bottle tops, pebbles or shells.

What to do:

Cut out the bingo question cards and place in a pile face down.
Give a bingo board to each player.
Players take turns to take a bingo question, and read it out loud. Players answer the questions out loud.
Encourage your child to answer the question as quickly as they can.
Players who have the answer on their bingo board can cover it with a counter.
The winner is the first person to cover all of their bingo board and call “Bingo”.

Keep note of facts your child has difficulty recalling quickly and practice then again at the end of the game.

What to expect your child to do:

To answer the division questions quickly. They should progress to instantly recalling the answer.

Variation:

  • There are four bingo boards so players can play again with a different board.
  • Have a “caller” who reads the bingo questions.
  • Players can only cover the number on their bingo board if they are the first to answer the bingo question.
  • Play "Bingo" games using your home languages.

  • Pānuihia mai te whakawehenga i tō kāri. (Read the division on your card.)
  • Whakawehea te tekau mā waru ki te ono (18 ÷ 6), ka hia? (Divide 18 by 6. How many is that?)
  • Toru tekau mā ono, whakawehea ki te whā, ka iwa (36 ÷ 4 = 9). (36 divided by 4 equals 9.)
  • He aha te otinga? Kei te mōhio koe ki tēnā whakawehenga? (Whats the answer? Do you know that division?)

  • Mēnā kua uhia katoatia ō tau, karangatia ‘Bingo’! Ko koe te toa. (If your numbers are all covered, call out Bingo! You are the winner.)
