Numeracy Activities

Multiple Patterns

In this activity we use a 1-100 grid to identify multiples of single digit numbers.  In particular we are looking for patterns and how they could be used to identify multiples.

Roughly how many?

In this activity we look at cubes which have been roughly sorted into arrays and decide about how many there are. We use our knowledge of multiplication facts to estimate the number of cubes.

Missing Number Bingo

To practice counting forwards and backwards with decimal numbers. This is a whole class game but can be played in small group situations where they can take turns to call the numbers. Both cards can be played at the same time which caters for differing students’ needs.

Empty number lines

In this activity students focus on the order of numbers.

Th numbers

In this activity students learn that the code in English for fraction is that the words end in -“th”

Ty number

In this activity students learn that the code in English for tens is that the word ends in “-ty”.

Five Little Ducks

The purpose of this activity is to help students learn groupings within 5. For example 1 and 4 make 5; 3 and 2 make 5.

Fingers to Five and Ten

The purpose of this activity is to help students learn groupings within 5, for example 1 and 4 make 5; 3 and 2 make 5.

Find the Ten

The purpose of this activity is to help students learn groupings within 10. For example 3 and 7 make 10; 8 and 2 make 10.
