Dealing with Decimals

The Ministry is migrating nzmaths content to Tāhurangi.
Relevant and up-to-date teaching resources are being moved to Tāhūrangi (tahurangi.education.govt.nz).
When all identified resources have been successfully moved, this website will close. We expect this to be in June 2024.
e-ako maths, e-ako Pāngarau, and e-ako PLD 360 will continue to be available.

Activity

Activity One

This activity extends students’ place-value understanding to three-digit decimals.
Note that these decimal compact numeral cards differ in shape from those used for page 2 in that they have the alignment arrow on the left so that the decimal numeral can be expanded to the right.
A copymaster of compact numeral cards is provided at the back of this booklet.

Activity Two

If students have difficulty with question 2, they could use a set of compact numeral cards. They could then explore what to add or subtract to make the required change in one operation.
